There is a particular kind of energy in a room full of travel advisors who have spent the morning hearing pitch after pitch, and are still leaning in for one more conversation. That was the atmosphere at this week’s Mozambique travel roadshow in Johannesburg, where Hello Mozambique represented Vilanculos Beach Lodge alongside a strong line-up of tourism suppliers, hospitality professionals and travel agents from across Southern Africa.
We go to events like this for a simple reason. Every conversation is a chance to correct a misconception, answer a genuine question, or plant the idea that Mozambique belongs on a client’s shortlist. A few days later, that conversation is often the difference between a booking and a maybe.
Why Trade Shows Still Matter
It would be easy to assume that in an age of instant search results and online reviews, in-person roadshows have had their day. The opposite is true, and this week reminded us why.
Travel advisors who spend fifteen minutes at a table asking real questions come away with something a website cannot give them: confidence. They want to know how a transfer actually feels for a family with young children, whether a lodge suits a honeymoon or a group of friends, what happens if a flight is delayed, and which destinations genuinely live up to their photos.
“An agent who has met the person behind a lodge, and asked them the awkward questions directly, sells that lodge differently afterward.”
Roadshows also do something less obvious but just as valuable. They build the relationships between suppliers, agents and destination specialists that make a client’s holiday run smoothly long before that client ever boards a flight. That is the real return on a day like this.
Mozambique Is Easier to Reach Than You Think
If there was one theme that came up more than any other, it was accessibility. Time and again, advisors were surprised by just how close Mozambique actually is from South Africa’s major cities.
- Vilanculos is roughly 1 hour 15 minutes from Johannesburg by air
- Maputo is under 1 hour from Johannesburg
- Airlink runs daily connecting flights, with easy onward connections from Cape Town and Durban
For a country that still carries a reputation among some travellers as remote or hard to reach, that short flight time is one of the most persuasive facts we can share.
Why Vilanculos Continues to Impress
Representing Vilanculos Beach Lodge for the day was a good reminder of why this stretch of coastline has held its place as one of Mozambique’s most popular beach destinations for so long. It is a destination that does not ask a traveller to choose one kind of holiday over another, divers, anglers, families and honeymooners all find their own version of it here.
Hospitality Makes All the Difference
None of a day like this happens without the right partners behind it. Our thanks go to NH Johannesburg Sandton for hosting such a well-run event, and to Barmotion Mobile Hospitality Solutions, whose coffee station became one of the busiest corners of the room almost from the moment doors opened.
